This large, striking and very functional, one-of-a-kind stainless steel kitchen features 100% stainless and glass cabinets, synthetic slate (Fireslate) and stainless steel counter surfaces, authentic stainless restaurant appliances and includes a large island with bar seating and a built-in bar (liquor).

The kitchen is very roomy, designed for "too many chefs in the kitchen", the space between the stove and island is a full 5 feet. In addition, the counter space is unusually deep, proportionate to the commercial range, which allows much more space. The orientation and size of the island, allows for much of meal preparation to be done facing out towards the great room. The kitchen is truly the focal point of this loft, and a great place for entertaining guests.

A focal and functional center island contains a large 2 basin stainless sink, the second of which is usable from the bar (wet bar), In-Sink-Erator disposal unit, a silent Bosch dishwasher, and Kitchen Aid trash compactor. The bar seating side of the island can comfortably support seating for six, and features hidden storage behind 4 stainless doors.

A 2 door commercial refrigerator only unit, has a glass top door for convenience, and matches the upper cabinets which all have glass doors. The dedicated under-counter freezer, again a commercial unit, sits between the fridge and the stove.

A commercial 48" gas stove by American Range, features 2 ovens, 4 large burners, built in griddle surface (24") and built-in broiler (separate from ovens).

The cabinets, are 100% stainless steel, and feature adjustable stainless shelves, rugged stainless drawers and doors. The upper cabinets feature glass doors, which make it much easier to find what you need.

The bar, is a custom feature of the island, and contains 4 large stainless pockets for housing liquor. The bar design allows for it to be "closed" to create more floor space in the kitchen. Also, when "opened" the counter surface of the bar area can be replaced with a larger stainless panel, which provides more counter surface.

Great Room

The vast great room is the largest room in the loft, with plentiful natural light from 2 tiers of windows. It is raised 3 steps from the main level, giving the room a sense of definition without walls. It features a powerful glass windowed wood burning stove finished with polished stainless steel, and Fireslate mantle. There is convenient access directly to the kitchen, and a shortcut to the main stairs up to the second floor.

Guest Bathroom

The first floor bathroom is finished completely in polished stainless steel, giving the room a very clean feel. It is appointed with imported fixtures from Vola, including a chrome sink and 3 headed "invisible" shower. The European doorless shower's chrome fixtures blend into the background and are barely noticeable. The tapered floor and drain in the corner are the only hints that this is the shower area.

The main stairs reiterate the solid feel of the unit. Made of steel, cement, Fireslate and trimmed with aluminum, and aluminium railings they reflect the raw materials used to create the space.

Master Bedroom

The large lofted master bedroom overlooks the great room, and features custom cabinets, and a custom queen sized bed frame, designed by studio FKIA (a Boston based design studio), and a convenient and cozy gas fireplace. The cabinets and bed are finished with a blue-black gunmetal finish, which matches other (optional) pieces of custom furniture designed for the loft. The bed frame (also optional) has 6 large hidden drawers for storage.

Between the master bedroom and bath, there is a steel stairway that rises over the bathroom tub, for access to the roof deck. The stair has no risers, and the treads are made of grating to allow maximum natural light into the bathroom, and to allow one to see in and out of the tub area from the master bedroom, emphasizing the open feel of the space. At the top of the stairs a 8' x 3' skylight opens to a private roof deck defined by wooden planters. From this 800 square foot private space, there are views of Boston's downtown, the South End and Back Bay.

On the roof there is access to electricity, 2 water faucets for a hose, automatic drip watering system, or filling a hot tub or kiddie pool (pictured), and a natural gas pipe which can be used for roof-top barbecues.

The loft is wired with the future in mind. Each area has a dedicated structured wire run composed of 2 Coaxial, 2 CAT5 and 2 multi-mode fiber-optic cables. The loft is also pre-wired for 13+ speakers, 2 each in the bathrooms and kitchen, and the remainder in the great room and master bedroom. All wires route to a central hub embedded in a wall of the master bedroom.

In addition, there are VGA runs to the master bedroom, kitchen, study and master bathroom, which allow a central multimedia computer to be viewed from any or all of those locations. This is great for watching the morning news while preparing for work.

The optional theater system is controlled by a central computer, which serves as the multimedia hub of the unit, and allows instant access to music, TV and movies, and the internet, all of which can be used from any of the various computer terminals/video locations throughout the loft.

The theater system's visual display consists of a powerful 1600 lumens ceiling mounted projector, which projects onto the largest wall in the loft. The image is approximately 16' x 20' with a 25' diagonal, and is obviously great for movies and sporting events. This massive screen is viewable from the great room, kitchen, partially from the master bathroom tub, and optimally from the "balcony" at the edge of the master bedroom.

Lighting and Audio/Video control can be achieved a number of different ways: 1) from many of the dedicated switch panels throughout the loft, 2) a Pronto graphical universal remote control, 3) from any of the computer terminals throughout the loft, 4) over the internet using a browser. Internet control is most practically used to remotely monitor/check the loft from another location, or to play practical jokes on unsuspecting house guests.
